Historical Poem

Slavery Poem
By Lilly Balsamo

Working on the field on a hot, hot day
All this hard work and we never get to cheer
Nothing ever seems to go my way
Whip after whip I never shed a tear
I want to escape and leave this place
I don't know where I would go
I'll never get an education that I know I would ace
I would just love it so
What it would be like
To live life like it was meant to be
You and me are not alike
Since you are not a slave like me
